Write to Publish Announces a Short Story Contest, Winners Published in Gertrude Press

Portland, OR – Write to Publish, Ooligan Press’s annual publishing conference, and Gertrude Press, a LGBTQIA nonprofit, is excited to offer a short story contest this year. The theme will be “Self-Discovery.” Submissions are open now until December 31, and a submission fee of $10 is required. The winner will be notified mid December. First place winner will receive $100 cash prize, free entry to the Write to Publish conference on January 31, 2015, and publication in Gertrude Press. Second place will also receive free entry to Write to Publish.

This year Write to Publish centers on “Demystifying the Publishing Process.” Our panelists range from graphic novel narrative, to writing about difficult subjects, to contracts and rights, and more! Mark Russell, cartoonist who created God Is Disappointed In You; Amber Keyser, author of The V-Word; and Patrick McDonald, publisher for Overcup Press, will be among the speakers. John Mutter, co-founder and editor-in-chief of Shelf Awareness, will give the keynote speech. The vendors will share their professional insight to the publishing process. Attendees will be able to partake in a raffle featuring fun, local prizes. PubSlush, a global crowd-funding platform for publishers and authors, will sponsor this exciting event.

Gertrude Press is a nonprofit organization that showcases queer and allied talents and prints a biannual arts and publishing journal. Write to Publish is hosted by Ooligan Press, a publishing and teaching house run by the graduate students of Portland State University’s Book Publishing Program. Tickets go on sale this fall and vary in price.
