In January, Murder by the Book will begin a series of talks and workshops for mystery readers and writers:

Smacked in the Head by Pulp Fiction

Dove Season

Portland author (Dove Season), screenwriter, and college instructor Johnny Shaw will lead a talk/workshop on what constitutes noir and pulp fiction. Registration fee is $25, of which $10 will be returned as a coupon towards a purchase at Murder by the Book.

Jump-Start Your Mystery

On January 31, at 6:30 p.m., Portland author and college instructor Chuck Caruso will lead a talk/workshop with tips on how to write or refine a mystery novel. Registration fee is $25, of which $10 will be returned as a coupon towards a purchase at Murder by the Book.

Sherlock Holmes fans will be excited to hear that Sam Siciliano will introduce his second contribution to the wonderful "The Further Adventures of Sherlock Holmes" series published by Titan Books. Web Weaver finds Sherlock grappling with a mysterious gypsy curse.

Gerald Elias

Death and the Maiden (hardcover, $25.99)

Music & Mayhem: When members of a string quartet begin disappearing, Daniel Jacobus must temporarily put aside his violin in favor of a detective's thinking cap. Gerald Elias has been a violinist with the Utah Symphony. Joining him in a musical piece will be his friend, Andrew Ehrlich, also a violinist.

Two more entries in our talk/workshop series: "The History of Mystery," given by MBTB's own Carolyn Lane, and a guided book group led by Portland author Lori L. Lake.
