About the Spotted Owl Award

The Spotted Owl is chosen by a volunteer committee of Friends of Mystery members, and is announced in the spring of the year. Judging is currently underway for the 2015 award.

For a book to be considered for the 2017 Spotted Owl Award:

  • The author must have primary residence in the states of Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Idaho or the Province of British Columbia.
  • The mystery is published in the current calendar year (January 1 – December 31, 2017).

Bloody Thursdays

Our 2018-2019 Season is heating up. In September we open with Spotted Owl Winner Ingrid Thoft, then in November we’re joined by Lou Berney. In January,  we have a panel featuring Chuck Caruso, Curtis Chen, and Jennifer Wolfe. Nancy Rommelmann joins us in March to discuss her book To the Bridge: A True Story of Motherhood and Murder. We close out our exciting year in May with a panel of mystery graphic novelists.

For 2018-2019, we will continue to be at TaborSpace at 5441 SE Belmont St. Portland, OR 97215.
